KING OF BATTLE
Fayetteville, North Carolina
FIRE MISSION COUNTDOWN
Calling all Field Artillery men — let's reunite, catch up with each other, and shoot off some high angle primers. Pass the word to every Redleg you know. The more Redlegs, the better the impact!
HERITAGE • HONOR • LEGACY
From the trenches of WWI to the mountains of Afghanistan — the legacy of the Redlegs.
"Noli Me Tangere" — Don't Tread On Me
Constituted 5 August 1917 as Battery C, 321st Field Artillery, 82nd Division. Organized at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Shipped to France in May 1918 and fought in the St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Lorraine 1918 campaigns. Demobilized at Camp Dix, NJ in May 1919.
Reorganized as Battery C, 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. Fought in Normandy (D-Day), Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace (Battle of Bastogne), and Central Europe. Earned the Presidential Unit Citation for Bastogne and the French Croix de Guerre for Normandy.
Consolidated as Battery C, 321st Airborne Field Artillery Battalion, element of the 101st Airborne Division. Served at Fort Campbell, Kentucky until inactivation in February 1964.
Redesignated as HHB, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery. Activated at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1987. Transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina in January 1996, assigned to the 18th Field Artillery Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps.
Deployed to Iraq (2005–2006) and Afghanistan (2008, 2010, 2011). Battery C earned the Valorous Unit Award for Afghanistan 2008. Multiple batteries received Meritorious Unit Commendations. Equipped with M142 HIMARS rocket launchers.
When 3-8 FAR was inactivated in January 1996, the 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment was simultaneously activated at Fort Bragg under the 18th Field Artillery Brigade. Many soldiers who served in 3-8 FAR transitioned directly to 3-321 FAR, carrying forward the legacy of both units.
